The Great Central Railway
LMS 8624 Built 1943, 125 tons
GWR 4953 'Pitchford Hall' Built 1927, 127 tons
Two dozen of us set of to Loughborough home of the Great Central Railway which is the UK's only double track preserved railway. Hmmm, double track? Why not have two engines in steam? So we did, each engine hauling a rake of carriages (getting on for a couple of hundred tons). Yet another great day out with lunch served in the restaurant carriage, tours of the engine shed and signal box. Some of group by LMS 8624 at the end of the day, while the rest of the group were still out on the track with GWR 4953 returning from Leicester.
