Cambridge AstroPlus

When the biggest is not big enough
Monday 6th Sept 2021
Start time : 19:15

Speaker : CAA

Even the world's biggest telescopes can't see the all the details that astronomers want, so they have a trick or two up their sleeves. By combining the signals of two or more telescopes you can effectively increase the resolution as if it was a single large telescope. Sounds easy, but in practice it is notoriously difficult.

We'll be looking at how the ideas developed, with some help from pioneering instruments here in Cambridge. We will also be showing some scientific results from these ultra-high resolution telescopes both optical and radio.

From now on the Cambridge AstroPlus incorporates the previous Cambridge Young Astronomers 11+ Group and also officially welcomes any of our members over the age of 11 to attend.

These Cambridge AstroPlus talks are presented by members of the CAA.
