A couple of weeks after this meeting on June 10th Jupiter will reach opposition - when Jupiter, the Earth and the Sun are in perfect alignment. If you can spot our biggest planet with a pair of binoculars, supported on a tripod, on a wall, on the back of a chair or whatever. You will see Jupiter as Galileo saw it in the winter of 1609/10 a bright planet with up to four of its moons. Unfortunately, it will not be very clear as it is low down in the southern sky. However, since Galileo's time we have learn a great deal about this giant gaseous planet, as well as some its 79 moons.
