Using Zoom to view Webcasts from the Cambridge Astronomical Association

We recommend you get Zoom installed in plenty of time before you want to use it. Once you have it installed already then just click on the "Join Event" link in the page for that event.

To get Zoom - What you have to do is:

1> Donwload and install Zoom Go to the Zoom web page
For PC/Mac - download zoom for your PC, or Mac

When I did it on a PC it downloaded and saved an installer file called ZoomInstaller.exe into the browsers downloaded files collection and i had to go there and click on it .. and it installs the zoom app. It only took a few moments

If you have a smartphone or tablet then download the app from your app store.

2> Register for a basic free account.
Assuming you dont already have an account you will have to register with an email address and password. once you have done that you are good to go.

3> At the appointed time for the event, go onto the CAA website and find the meeting and click on the "Join Event" link.

It should all work! You may have to log-in to Zoom of course - it will ask you for your details.

4> Audio and Video
It may ask you about using audio or video - and if you have a microphone or webcam you can say yes to either or both. If not, you will be able to hear and see the meeting, but we won't hear/see you.

5> Chat There is also a chat feature - you can click on this and type messages which should be seen by everyone - so even if your PC does not have a microphone or camera you can say hello.
